For my senior thesis, I built and designed an educational website that focused on the individual learning styles of students at every age. The project consisted of a working prototype of my website, advertisements, social media assets, and merchandise. All of these were designed and implemented by myself.
Programs used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD
Everyone learns in different ways. Unfortunately, our public education system doesn’t accommodate for the specific learning style of individual students. As a result, many parents take an alternative route and home school their children so that they may learn through methods that work best for them. However, this is not always an option and children are often forced to learn in a way that can hinder their ability to fully grasp subject matter.
Camp Cultivate, a new educational website, hopes to remedy this problem. The website provides a space for individuals to learn about a variety of subjects, while not forcing these individuals to learn through one given method. In fact, Camp Cultivate provides educational materials through seven different styles of learning. Users can mix and match these seven different styles to create a custom database that works best for them.
In addition, Camp Cultivate encourages learning and exploration through a summer camp theme and dynamic color palette. Users also can customize their profile, participate in forums, print out educational worksheets, and earn merit badges through engaging in the lesson plans provided on the site.
From the start, our thesis was based heavily in research. We started by finding a problem in our every days lives. After that we drafted a hypothesis for a possible solution, conducted surveys, and used facts in order to back up the legitimacy of our research. Out next step was to take this research and develop a product that could solve our original problem.
Camp Cultivate features a motivational rewards system throughout the website. As you learn using the site, the user can earn a variety of different merit badges that are featured on his/her profile. Each merit badge is worth a certain amount of 'experience points' that contribute to an overall level showcased on the user's profile page.
A series of social media assets were created for advertisement purposes. Camp Cultivates color scheme allows for an eye popping advertisement that stands out on a variety of social media platforms. Since Camp Cultivate is primarily web based, these ads are the perfect way to streamline Camp Cultivates user base directly to the site.
